  • 2 cups Whole Milk Can substitute with almond milk.
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Use additional milk for lighter option.
  • 6 large Eggs Substitute with more smaller eggs if necessary.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar Can replace with brown sugar.
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract Use pure for best results.
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Sea salt works well.
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter Salted can be used if preferred.
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar For topping.

Method
 

Preparing the Casserole
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cut day-old French bread or brioche into cubes and spread evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread and press down gently. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Mix melted butter and brown sugar for the topping and drizzle over the soaked bread.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool for a few moments before serving with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
