Ingredients
  

For the Cheesecake Layer
  • 16 oz Cream Cheese at room temperature
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar no direct substitute recommended
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 1 cup Sour Cream plain yogurt can be a substitute
  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream can replace with half-and-half
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract high-quality pure extract recommended
  • 1 cup Miniature Chocolate Chips dark chocolate chips as a substitute
For the Cake Layers
  • 1 box White Cake Mix substitute with homemade vanilla cake if desired
  • 1 cup Water use milk for a richer flavor
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil applesauce can be an alternative
  • 3 large Egg Whites whole eggs can work but will alter texture
For the Frosting
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Salted Butter unsalted butter can also be used
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract for frosting
For Decoration
  • 1/2 cup Extra Miniature Chocolate Chips

Method
 

Prepare the Cheesecake Layer
  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Mix cream cheese, sugar, and salt until smooth. Add eggs, sour cream, and heavy cream. Pour into springform pan and bake for 45 minutes. Let cool and freeze for 2 hours.
Make the Cake Layers
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Combine cake mix, water, oil, and egg whites. Divide batter into two greased 9-inch pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to racks.
Prepare the Frosting
  1. Beat butter and vanilla until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar until smooth. Adjust consistency with cream if necessary.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Place one cake layer on a plate, spread frosting on top, add cheesecake layer, and more frosting before topping with the second cake layer.
Frost and Decorate
  1. Coat the entire cake with remaining frosting. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top and sides.
Chill the Cake
  1. Chill the assembled cake for at least 2 hours before serving.
