Step-by-Step Instructions for Asparagus Gruyere Tart
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to about 11 x 9 inches. Trim to a rectangle of 11 x 7 inches.
  3. Gently brush the outer edges of the pastry with the beaten egg. Arrange the pastry strips along the edges.
  4. Prick the center of the pastry base thoroughly with a fork.
  5. Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves evenly over the base.
  6. Generously sprinkle grated Gruyere cheese over the thyme-covered pastry.
  7. Trim the tough ends off the asparagus and arrange them on top of the cheese.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Brush the edges of the pastry with more beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
