Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour and ½ teaspoon of salt until well combined.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream ½ cup of unsalted butter and ¾ cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter and sugar, mixing on low speed until a crumbly dough forms.
  6. Press approximately two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  7. In a separate bowl, combine 4 cups of sliced Granny Smith apples with ½ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.
  8. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  9. Crumble the remaining dough over the apple filling, covering it as evenly as possible.
  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
