Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour and ½ teaspoon of salt until well combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream ½ cup of unsalted butter and ¾ cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter and sugar, mixing on low speed until a crumbly dough forms.
- Press approximately two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine 4 cups of sliced Granny Smith apples with ½ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the apple filling, covering it as evenly as possible.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
