Step-by-Step Instructions for Spooky Spider Cookies
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. In a separate bowl, cream together 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of softened unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Add in 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing well until fully combined. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet until a smooth dough forms.
- Using a tablespoon, scoop out portions of dough and roll them into balls. Space them about 2 inches apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- While your Spooky Spider Cookies are cooling, melt 1 cup of chocolate candy melts according to package instructions. Once melted, transfer the chocolate to a piping bag or a sturdy zip-lock bag for easy decorating.
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, dip the top of each cookie into the melted chocolate. For each cookie, press in 4 mini pretzel twists on the sides to create spider legs. Then, add a pair of candy eyes to the center of the cookie using a dab of melted chocolate to secure them.
- To enhance the appearance, drizzle additional melted chocolate over the tops or sprinkle edible glitter. Allow the chocolate to set for 30 minutes at room temperature.
