Step-by-Step Instructions for Spooky Spider Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. In a separate bowl, cream together 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of softened unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Add in 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing well until fully combined. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Using a tablespoon, scoop out portions of dough and roll them into balls. Space them about 2 inches apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  3. While your Spooky Spider Cookies are cooling, melt 1 cup of chocolate candy melts according to package instructions. Once melted, transfer the chocolate to a piping bag or a sturdy zip-lock bag for easy decorating.
  4. Once the cookies are completely cooled, dip the top of each cookie into the melted chocolate. For each cookie, press in 4 mini pretzel twists on the sides to create spider legs. Then, add a pair of candy eyes to the center of the cookie using a dab of melted chocolate to secure them.
  5. To enhance the appearance, drizzle additional melted chocolate over the tops or sprinkle edible glitter. Allow the chocolate to set for 30 minutes at room temperature.
