Preparation
  1. Start by laying the sliced onion at the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Gently place the beef roast right on top of the onions.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce over the beef roast.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, black pepper, and salt directly over the beef.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours.
  6. Carefully remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred using two forks.
  7. Strain out the onions from the cooking liquid and return the broth to the slow cooker.
  8. To thicken the gravy, stir in a cornstarch slurry and allow it to simmer on HIGH for about 10 minutes.
  9. To serve, place a slice of bread on a plate, layer with fluffy mashed potatoes, and top with the shredded beef.
  10. Ladle the thickened gravy generously over the top.
