- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with unsalted butter and dust with all-purpose flour.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt.
- Cream room temperature butter with sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Then add milk and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just blended.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans, smoothing the tops. Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Remove from oven and let cool in pans for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto wire racks to cool completely.
