Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook ziti pasta in salted boiling water until al dente, about 8–10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Sauté ground beef or Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add marinara sauce to the skillet with meat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked ziti, ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, half of the parmesan, and fresh basil. Mix well.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the meat sauce, then half of the ziti mixture, and repeat. Finish with remaining ziti on top.
- Top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
