Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Samoa Rice Krispie Treats
- Toast the Coconut: In a large sauté pan, add the sweetened shredded coconut and stir constantly over medium-high heat for about 2-5 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to a plate to cool.
- Prepare Dulce de Leche: In a microwave-safe bowl, mix dulce de leche and milk. Microwave for 1.5 minutes, stirring halfway. Set aside.
- Mix Dulce de Leche: Add most of the cooled, toasted coconut to the dulce de leche and stir until evenly coated.
- Melt Marshmallows and Butter: In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine mini marshmallows and butter. Microwave for about 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and smooth.
- Combine Cereal: Add the Rice Krispie cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture and stir until evenly coated.
- Layer Treats: Press half of the crispy cereal mixture into the bottom of a greased 8x12-inch pan. Top with the caramel coconut mixture and then the remaining cereal.
- Top with Chocolate and Coconut: Melt semisweet chocolate and spread over the top of the layered treats. Sprinkle remaining toasted coconut on top. Allow to cool before cutting.
