Cooking Steps
  1. Mix ground beef with salt and black pepper in a large bowl and shape into ¾-inch thick patties. Let them rest while you prepare the onions.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion and cook for about 10 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high and sear patties on each side for about 4-5 minutes until they develop a brown crust.
  4. Lower heat to medium, add minced garlic to the skillet, and sauté for 1 minute. Then whisk in flour for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  5. Gradually pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, whisking until the gravy thickens.
  6. Return patties to the skillet, coat in gravy, and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Serve the Smothered Hamburger Steak topped with caramelized onions and garnished with parsley.
