Preparation
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add finely diced onions and bell pepper, sautéing for about 4-5 minutes until soft and fragrant.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, the cooled vegetable mixture, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, egg, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into patties about ½ inch thick. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your grill to 450-500°F. Place patties on a perforated, sprayed foil and grill for 4-6 minutes on each side until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
- Alternatively, in a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook patties for about 5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-6 minutes until they reach 160°F.
- Allow the burgers to rest for 3-5 minutes before serving on whole wheat buns, chaffles, or wrapped in lettuce with toppings.
