Method

Preparation
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add finely diced onions and bell pepper, sautéing for about 4-5 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, the cooled vegetable mixture, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, egg, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into patties about ½ inch thick. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat your grill to 450-500°F. Place patties on a perforated, sprayed foil and grill for 4-6 minutes on each side until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  5. Alternatively, in a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and cook patties for about 5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-6 minutes until they reach 160°F.
  6. Allow the burgers to rest for 3-5 minutes before serving on whole wheat buns, chaffles, or wrapped in lettuce with toppings.
