Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine your active sourdough starter, warm milk, melted unsalted butter, light brown sugar, orange zest, salt, and egg. Stir until smooth, then gradually add bread flour, mixing until the dough forms.
  2. Knead the mixture on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until the dough is elastic and smooth.
  3. Cover the kneaded dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm area for 6-7 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and additional zest. Roll tightly into a log, cut into 12 pieces, and place in a greased baking dish.
  5. Let the shaped rolls rise for 2-3 hours in a warm place or overnight in the fridge.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour warmed heavy cream over rolls and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Prepare frosting by mixing softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, fresh orange juice, and zests until smooth. Spread over warm rolls.
